BIOMETRICS

Please note that if the applicant is in Canada, the biometric information collection can be temporarily exempted until the service in Canada is completed.

Beginning with the submission of a new application on December 31, both online and paper submissions will be required to collect biometric information. The application that has been sent to the Visa Center has not been affected. The application submitted by the Internet before December 31, under normal circumstances, should not be required to apply for fingerprints at the time of trial or labeling. If there is a special case, the Immigration Department will Notify the applicant.

Biometric information collection requires applicants to go to the Visa Center in person, take photos on the spot and enter fingerprints. In the future, they will be required to verify fingerprints when entering Canada to confirm their identity and fight crime. The official indicates that the application will not be processed until the applicant has paid the relevant fees and provided the biometric information, and the biometric information collection fee is paid at the same time as the application is submitted to avoid delays. This means that it is not necessary to pay for fingerprints after signing, and you need to pay the money and provide biological information regardless of the visa result.

For applicants with a visitor visa, study permit and work permit, the biometric information is valid for 10 years, and the visa/permit is re-applied within 10 years from the date of collection, without repeated collection until the expiration date.
For applicants who have collected biometric information in a visitor visa/learning permit/work permit application and intend to apply for such a visa/license again, the following link can be used to check if the biometric information is still valid:
https://onlineservices-servicesenligne.cic.gc.ca/extapp/bioStatusQuery?&lang=en .

For permanent resident applicants, each time you submit a permanent residence application, you will need to collect biometric information and pay a fee. If a permanent residence application has been submitted and biological information has been collected, the application for a short-term resident visa may be exempted from biometric information collection if the application is still pending (see below for exemptions).

Bioinformatics collection fee: $85 for a single person and $170 for a family.
The method of submitting the application is different, the time for paying the biological information collection fee is different, and the time and manner of receiving the biological information request letter (hereinafter referred to as “letter”) are different. If biometric information is required to be collected, it is mandatory to make an appointment for biometric information collection. Generally, bioinformation collection is completed within 30 days of receiving the letter. You must bring your letter together when you collect.

Note: Any service involving the collection of biological information by the Visa Center must make an appointment in advance, whether it is to collect biometric information separately after receiving the letter or to collect biometric information along with the delivery of the paper application. Reservations can be made in advance via the Visa Center website, online reservations, telephone reservations, and email reservations. Make sure you arrive at the Visa Center 15 minutes before the appointment time. If you only submit the application and do not involve biometric information collection, you do not need to make an appointment. You only need to go to the visa center to work.

The following situations can be exempted from biometric information collection (knocking, highlighting):

Canadian citizen, Canadian citizen applicant (including passport applicant), or existing permanent resident
Going to Canada for the purpose of accessing only visa-free citizens
Children under 14 years old
Elderly people over the age of 79 (where asylum seekers do not have this age allowance)
Head of state and government
Applicants who are eligible to apply for or hold a diplomatic or official visa
US visa holders transiting Canada
Refugee applicant or asylum seeker who has provided biological information for a study or work permit
Permanent residence application for short-term resident visa applicants who are currently in the process of trial and have provided biological information
If the applicant is applying for a visa, study permit, work permit, or permanent resident in Canada, then the biometric information collection can be temporarily exempted until the service in Canada is completed.
