CLOSED WORK PERMIT
In contrast to open work permits, closed work permits require you to work for a designated employer in Canada and to perform a designated position.
The service on this page is to apply for a Work Permit in Canada. For applications outside Canada, please refer to the Work Permit.
Need LMIA
In most cases, an employer is required to apply for a labor market impact assessment LMIA before applying for a closed work permit.
Exemption from LMIA
If the applicant meets one of the following conditions:
- Religious people,
- Visiting scholars,
- Internal mobility of multinational companies,
- Has obtained CSQ or provincial nomination certificate.
- It is then possible to waive LMIA’s work in Canada, where the employer is required to go through the guarantee process and pay a fee of $230.
Where to apply
Work permits can usually only be applied overseas or at the border. Both methods have a certain chance of refusal. If the applicant originally holds a work permit or a student visa, or the applicant’s spouse holds a work permit or a student visa, the applicant can submit a work permit application within the territory. Such an application is generally not refused.
