POST-GRADUATION WORK PERMIT

Post-graduation Work Permit (PGWP), after graduating from Canada, international students can apply for a 1-3 year post-graduation work permit based on their study time. This is an open work visa where international students can work for any employer or self-employed.
After studying in Canada for more than 8 months and less than 2 years, the time given for the work permit after graduation is generally the same as the time for the study project, but after 2 years (or more), you can get a 3-year work permit after graduation.
Studying vocational training courses in Quebec, 1800 hours corresponding to a three-year work permit. After 16 months of continuous master’s and doctoral programs, you can get a three-year work permit.
You can get a three-year work permit for two one-year projects. The two projects can be irrelevant, but the second qualification must be obtained within 2 years after the end of the first project.

Institutions that meet the post-graduation work permit

  1. Public higher education institutions (colleges or universities),
  2. Quebec’s private higher education institutions,
  3. Vocational training schools in Quebec (both public and private),
  4. Although attending a private school outside Quebec, the applicant eventually obtained a bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degree.
  5. There are also some private flight colleges that meet the conditions for post-graduation work.
Please note that certificates or diplomas issued by private institutions outside Quebec usually do not meet the conditions for post-graduation work.

Limite to get a post-graduation work permit

Applicants can only obtain a post-graduation work permit. If the work permit is used up, there is still no successful immigration. After continuing to enroll in other projects, it will no longer meet the conditions for post-graduation work.

There are only a limited way to continue the post-graduation work permit:

  1. If you have already submitted an immigration application, you can apply for a bridge work permit.
  2. If you apply for LMIA, or if you have a limited exemption from LMIA, you can get a closed work permit.
  3. Let the spouse go to school and apply for a spouse’s work permit.

Special Reminder

Only full-time study meets the conditions for a post-graduation work permit. The only exception is that the applicant has only the last study because he has to switch to a part-time study because of insufficient class selection. Part-time study due to subjective factors (study, undergraduate, and deliberately selected courses may be refused).
After graduation, the work permit must be submitted within 180 days after the school issues a letter of confirmation for graduation. If the graduation certificate and the diploma are not issued at the same time, the earlier time shall prevail.
Applicants with valid visas will have Implied Status after submitting their post-graduation work permit and can start working immediately. As long as the student is valid when submitting the post-graduation work permit, the middle school visa will be invalid during the trial process, and the work permit will not continue to be approved after graduation.
After graduation, the work permit can be applied overseas, but the material is more troublesome than the domestic application, and the signing rate is relatively low (the success rate of the domestic application is almost 100%), refer to the work visa.
