PERMANENT RESIDENT CARD
The Permanent Resident Card (commonly known as Maple Leaf Card) is a credit card sized plastic card.
Maple Leaf Card is the official identification of Canadian permanent residents.
This card must be displayed when a permanent resident returns to Canada by business vehicle, such as an airplane, merchant ship, train or bus. If you return to Canada by private means, such as driving back to Canada, you can also display other documents, or even no documents.
If you plan to leave Canada, make sure your Maple Leaf card is still valid when you return. Most Maple Leaf cards are valid for 5 years.
If you are not planning to leave Canada, you do not need this card.
When to apply for Maple Leaf Card
When the new immigrant logs in for the first time, he will tell the border official the address of the card, and the Maple Leaf Card will be mailed to the applicant by ordinary mail in about 3 months.
If the Maple Leaf Card is lost, damaged, expired, or not received when you log in for the first time, you may need to apply for a Maple Leaf Card according to the list on this page.
