PERMANENT RESIDENT TRAVEL DOCUMENT
When do I apply for a travel document?
Permanent residents can apply for permanent resident travel documents for international travel for various reasons (failed, lost, not yet received) without a Maple Leaf Card. The document can only be applied abroad.
As long as permanent residents can appear on the Canadian border, they have the right to enter Canada and do not need any documents to prove that travel documents are usually used for exit and boarding.
If the permanent resident is in the United States, driving to Canada does not require a travel document, but if you are to re-enter Canada by public transport, you may be required to present a valid ID when boarding (car, boat).
Application method and points
Travel documents should be mailed or submitted to the Visa Center in person.
To apply for a travel document, it is only necessary to prove that the applicant is a permanent resident and that the residence obligation is fulfilled.
The travel document is very similar to the visa and is attached to the passport.
