BRIDGING OPEN WORK PERMIT

On December 15, 2012, the Canadian Immigration Department launched the Bridging Open Work Permit, which allows foreign workers who are applying for immigration approval but whose work visas are due to expire to receive an open work permit.
To apply for a bridge work permit, the applicant must hold a valid work permit, cannot hold other types of visas (visitors, school passes), or recover from identity after the work permit has expired.
Bridge work permits cannot be applied outside of Canada and cannot be applied at the border.
Applicants for the fast track will usually submit the bridge work permit immediately after submitting the immigration. The visa officer will wait for the initial approval before reviewing the bridge work permit.
After the bridge work permit is submitted, the applicant has an Implied Status and can continue to work until approval, even if the previous work permit expires.

Basic Conditions

In order to meet the conditions for applying for a bridge sign, the following conditions must be met:

  • Must be in Canada now;
  • The work permit will expire in less than 4 months;
  • They are federal skilled immigrants, Canadian experienced immigrants, provincial nominees or federal skilled migrants, and their immigration applications are approved.
  • If you are an applicant for a provincial nominee, you must indicate that there are no Employment restrictions on the nomination letter.

Is the employer-based provincial nomination applied for a bridge work permit or a closed work permit?

Whether the application for the bridge work permit and the provincial nomination is irrelevant based on the employer is the only factor is whether the Approval restrictions are indicated on the nomination letter. As long as the column is No, the bridge work permit can be applied.
The bridge work permit is an open work permit, but it does not mean that you can work for other employers after obtaining the bridge work permit. Provincial nominees still need to meet the conditions for provincial nominations, and some projects require applicants to continue working for the same employer during federal trials.
Closed work permits require employers to work together, so it is often more convenient to apply for a bridge work permit. However, if the Approval restrictions column is Yes, you can only apply for a closed work permit.
In addition, if the applicant feels that the paper province nomination trial cycle is too long, you can also consider using a closed work permit plus 50 points to take the fast track.
It is exempt from LMIA to hold a provincial nomination letter and apply for a closed work permit.
